Oral Health Policy & Advocacy: A Health Equity Case Study
This webinar sponsored by The Uprising for Black Lives will feature a panel of experienced oral health advocates and community organizers who are working to dismantle systemic racism and discrimination in oral health in a way that centers – and is responsive to – the needs of the community, using dental therapy as a case study.  Oral health starts – long before dental problems or other related health issues arise – where people live, work and play and with the policies that shape access to care. Structural racism has created deep inequities in access to care and oral health outcomes that directly affect Black, American Indian and Alaska Native, and Latinx populations. The Movement for Black Lives calls us to work for a health care system that meets the full health needs of Black communities. Given the existence of deep oral health inequities, investing in community-based solutions and a community-driven workforce is essential.

Public Health Approaches to Children’s Oral Health During COVID-19
The National Conference of State Legislatures has a "Hot Topics" public health webinar series. This December 4 webinar will cover research, state policies and national initiatives around public health approaches to maintaining access to children’s oral health services. Between March and May of this year, children in Medicaid received over 7 million fewer dental services compared to the same period last year. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced sporadic closures to dental offices and limited community-based options for delivering children’s oral health services. Still, state public health strategies that address children’s oral health in settings such as schools, community health centers and mobile clinics provide options for policymakers to close gaps in care during the pandemic, particularly for vulnerable populations. Speakers include Paul Glassman, Sam Zwetchkenbaum (RI state dental director), and Rhonda Stokley (TX state dental director). Recording.
