5.0 Programs


This module provides information about school-based dental sealant program operations, with an emphasis on the specific requirements that apply to programs funded by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). The module draws on two primary resources: Seal America: The Prevention Invention (3rd ed.) and the School-Based Dental Sealant Program Manual produced by the Ohio Department of Health. In the event that the two resources present conflicting information, the information in this module and in the School-Based Dental Sealant Program Manual will prevail for ODH-funded programs. Another useful resource is the Dental Sealant Guidelines and Operations Manual produced by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

  • Describe the result of making a dental sealant program more efficient.
  • Explain what quality assurance for programs is.
  • List three questions that can help programs decide how to best design a program that will comply with state laws.
  • Explain why a large proportion of children at schools with sealant program are expected to be Medicaid beneficiaries.
  • Explain why ODH sets requirements and monitors the programs it funds.
  • List the two types of site reviews that ODH conducts.
