This continuing education course provides information on dental assistants’ role in preventing family violence. Through understanding what causes family violence and learning the definitions of child abuse and neglect, assistants also learn the protocol for identifying suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. The course helps assistants recognize common symptoms that may mimic symptoms of abuse and learn to intervene in family violence cases in which adults, versus children, are the victims. Additionally, the course helps to familiarize assistants with local and state initiatives to prevent family violence.
