This resource provides information from annual questionnaires sent to oral health program directors in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S.-associated jurisdictions for tracking progress toward meeting Healthy People oral health objectives. Contents include an overview of the content, history, methods, limitations, permissions for use, and related links. Data from the five most recent synopses are available for generating lists, tables, or maps containing oral health summaries for each state and territory; states and territories that support an oral health program; the percentage of people with public water systems receiving fluoridated water; states and territories with a full-time dental director by year; and state and territorial trends in demographics, infrastructure, workforce, administration, budget, and programs across multiple years. The data collection instruments are also available from the website.

These proceedings of the fifth workshop on dental public health (June 19-22, 1961) held by the Continued Education Service of the School of Public Health of the University of Michigan discuss enlarging the administrative horizons of local dental directors, provoking a critical appraisal of the scientific information available to these directors, developing technics for improvement of the inter-relationships with the state's department of health, and organizing a national roster of local programs and personnel. The chapter topics are public health organization, establishing the natural history of disease, organizing a local dental program, components of a local dental program, financing dental health, and maintaining satisfactory human relations.

These proceedings of the Micronesian Dental Health Strategy Meeting, held in October 1998 in San Francisco, California, discuss efforts toward improving oral health in the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau. Topics include an overview of the involvement of the U. S. Public Health Service in regional oral health services, the crisis in the delivery of oral health services, jurisdictional differences in providing services, manpower problems, redirection for prevention, grants, and recommendations. The proceedings include an executive summary, a transcript of the meeting, and several appendices containing supplemental papers, materials, and a report on the meeting. References conclude the proceedings.

This report offers an overview of the capacity of dental public health (DPH) to serve the public in order to stimulate the development of a blueprint for action. Topics include the rationale for and scope of dental public health; the structure and function of DPH today, including discussions of state and local DPH programs, professional education, participation of professional and voluntary organizations, assessing the value of DPH programs, and where DPH stands today. Additional topics include strengthening DPH by articulating goals for the future, earning support from policy makers and program administrators, ensuring recruitment and professional development, and other challenges and opportunities.
