This curriculum is designed to assist health professionals in managing the oral health of infants and young children. The modules include information on performing oral screenings to identify infants and children at increased risk for oral health problems, offering referrals to oral health professionals, and providing parents with anticipatory guidance. Module titles are (1) an introduction to infants' and young children's oral health, (2) managing infants' and young children's oral health, (3) oral conditions and abnormalities, (4) prevention of oral disease, (5) nonnutritive sucking habits, (6) oral injury, and (7) infants and young children with special health care needs. Each module includes an overview, learning objectives, key points, a self-assessment quiz, references, and additional resources. [Funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau]

This curriculum is designed to help safety net dental clinic staff learn about all aspects of financing a safety net dental clinic and ensuring that the clinic remains financially sustainable over the long term. The series of five self-study modules present clinic staff with information about strategic planning; revenue; expenses; managing finances; and grants, contracts, and fundraising. The modules provide information about developing a business plan and include links to budget planning spreadsheet that allows users to enter and analyze data and save the analysis of the financial impacts of different decisions, assumptions, and costs. Guidance is offered on estimating revenue and expenses, developing a budget, and assessing financial sustainability. The modules also include tips on proposal writing, managing grants and contracts, and developing a fundraising plan. The modules include both national information and information specific to Ohio.

This course is designed to help health professionals implement client-centered communication practices that demonstrate cultural competency and appropriately address clients with limited health literacy and limited English proficiency. The course comprises five modules and will take approximately five hours to complete. Continuing educatioin credits (CEU/CE, CHES, CME, and CNE) are available.

This continuing education activity is designed to raise awareness among pediatricians and other health professionals about the importance of oral health in infants, children, and adolescents; to increase health professionals’ competence in providing oral health guidance and preventive care; and to encourage a shared responsibility for oral health. Topics include basic anatomy, oral development, screening, dental caries, preventive care, fluoride, special health care needs, oral habits, pathology, injury, oral findings, systemic diseases, and adolescent health. This online course discusses the significance of health literacy in the public health profession. It provides practical steps to apply the principles and strategies of health literacy in daily activity. Course contents include an introduction and definition of health literacy; a discussion of why it matters; and applying health literacy to practice, including suggestions on how to improve health literacy, barriers to overcome, guiding principles, planning, evaluation, partnerships, and cultural competence. Sections online also provide resources and a glossary.

This curriculum is designed to provide Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment medical providers (i.e., physicians, nurse practitioners) and other health professionals in Maryland with knowledge and skills to reduce the incidence of dental caries among children ages 3 and under and to contribute to the establishment of a dental home. The series of four modules provides information on the role of medical providers in children's oral health. Also included are a description of the dental caries process and instructions on how to conduct a dental caries risk assessment. Finally, the modules address the provision of anticipatory guidance, the application of fluoride varnish, and the importance of referring young children to a dentist.
