This guide is for Florida schools to use as an instrument for helping faculties develop and improve their health education programs. It presents factual oral health information with correlated and articulated educational experiences designed to influence the attitudes, practices, and habits of children. The book discusses keys to oral health; tasks of the parent, school, teacher, oral health profession, and community; aims and objectives of oral health education; oral health information for the teacher; and instructional programs for elementary, junior, and high schools. A glossary, bibliography, and oral health education materials and teaching aids are provided in appendices.

This annual report presents national trends in health statistics on such topics as birth and death rates, infant mortality, life expectancy, morbidity and health status, risk factors, use of ambulatory and inpatient care, health personnel and facilities, financing of care, health insurance and managed care, and other health topics. The report includes a chartbook and trend tables. Trend tables are also available as downloadable spreadsheet files for data manipulation or graphical analysis. The preface describes changes and additions to the current report. Major findings are presented in the highlights. Appendices include data sources, definitions, and methods. The index is a topical index with cross references to such topics as child and adolescent health, older adults, nutrition related, specific race and ethnic groups, state data, and women's health. This booklet uses color photographs and drawings to inform parents about early childhood caries. The illustrations are accompanied by text indicating the major concepts related to the condition and its prevention. The booklet discusses symptoms, causal factors, preventive measures, and various techniques parents can use to help their children use a cup instead of a bottle. The booklet is also available in Spanish.

This instructional package was designed for use by child health clinics and Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) clinics in Ohio. The package includes a notebook containing an educational flip chart for use in training sessions with parents and child care providers. It contains behavioral contracts to encourage parents to modify their current behaviors at home with their young children to help prevent development of early childhood caries. The contracts are printed on the front and back of two distinct graphic shapes; one contains reminders to promote prevention, the other encourages intervention. The package also includes magnets that remind parents to take preventive steps, and stickers for use by clinic or program staff to mark medical records after parents have been trained. A subsequent version by the American Dental Hygienists' Association does not contain the magnets and stickers included in the original version. [Funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau]

Written to help caregivers, parents, and the children themselves, the booklet addresses the eruption of primary teeth and permanent teeth, dental emergencies, and preventive measures including good nutrition and the use fluoride and sealants. The booklet describes conditions such as plaque, calculus, tooth decay, and periodontal diseases; presents techniques for brushing and flossing; and discusses special dental equipment and the positioning of the patient for oral hygiene.

A chart indicates the approximate ages at which the primary or baby teeth erupt in the child's mouth.
