This manual outlines an oral health education program for both health professionals and educators that can be used with audiences of any age. Section I contains oral health information for the educator. It includes information about tooth structure, plaque, and prevention measures such as fluoride, dental sealants, and oral hygiene. The effects on oral health of tobacco and certain foods are also discussed. At the end of the section are lists of materials, equipment, resources, and supplies that educators need. Section II of the manual contains 12 activity guides that cover learning good oral hygiene habits; the role of dental sealants; how safety equipment protects teeth; tobacco's negative effects on oral health; and healthy food choices. Section III is an appendix that contains illustrations of teeth and tooth decay, handouts to go with the activities, additional information to be used in classes or newsletters, and lists of nutrition and oral health resources.
