This resource describes Wisconsin’s program to build a statewide system to promote oral health as part of overall health and to organize community resources to increase access to oral health care for children and adolescents with special health care needs. The resource outlines the following program services: training for dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants; education and training for children, parents, caregivers, and teachers; education for health professionals, including physicians and nurses; fluoride varnish and dental sealant programs; and targeted interactive case management to link families with services. Information for families is also available.

This resource features a series of reports published in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Reports between April and December 1999 on 10 public health achievements, reflecting the successful response of public health to the major causes of morbidity and mortality for the period 1900-1999. Topics include vaccination, motor-vehicle safety, workplace safety, control of infectious diseases, decline in deaths from coronary heart disease and stroke, safer and healthier foods, healthier mothers and babies, family planning, fluoridation of drinking water, and tobacco as a health hazard. Critical changes in the U.S. public health system during the century are also addressed.

This resource describes how the revised Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework aligns and builds from five domains of birth to five school readiness to identify critical areas of learning and development for children including dual language learners and children with special needs. A webcast provides an overview of the revisions; descriptions of the three new domains and their rationale; the relationship of the framework to program operations, planning, and quality improvement; and how the framework brings additional focus to school readiness for preschool children. Additional topics include school readiness goals and core strategies to promote school readiness. A video and transcript announcing the revised framework are also available.

These proceedings of the fifth workshop on dental public health (June 19-22, 1961) held by the Continued Education Service of the School of Public Health of the University of Michigan discuss enlarging the administrative horizons of local dental directors, provoking a critical appraisal of the scientific information available to these directors, developing technics for improvement of the inter-relationships with the state's department of health, and organizing a national roster of local programs and personnel. The chapter topics are public health organization, establishing the natural history of disease, organizing a local dental program, components of a local dental program, financing dental health, and maintaining satisfactory human relations.

This booklet contains the program and summaries of symposium presentations held on May 22-23, 1973, at the University of Iowa. Topics include genetics and the prevention of mental retardation; neuromuscular diseases involving craniofacial structures; hospital dentistry; anesthesia and analgesia; new directions in the training of professionals for delivery of services to the handicapped; challenges in preventing dental disease; a comprehensive clinical dental program for hemophiliacs; organization of an interdisciplinary unit for the study of craniofacial anomalies; and the future care of the handicapped person. The symposium was supported by Training Project 484, Maternal and Child Health Service, health Services and mental Health Administration, awarded to the University of Iowa, Department of Pedodontics, in cooperation with the University Hospital School.
