These resources are intended for use in implementing school-based oral health screenings to identify emergent needs in preschool and school-age children in Montana. This resource provides evidence-based recommendations and findings about what works to improve public oral health. Strategies are reviewed and interventions outlined in three key areas: (1) prevention of dental caries; (2) prevention of oral and pharyngeal cancers; and (3) prevention of oral and facial injuries. Recommendations include community water fluoridation, school-based or -linked dental sealant delivery programs, early cancer detection, and the use of protective gear for the head and the mouth during contact sports.

These campaign materials are designed to increase public awareness about the harmful effect of frequent and prolonged soft drink consumption on oral health, particularly in children, adolescents, and young adults. Contents include a fact sheet, a quiz, a presentation, and a research article. An order form for print materials (brochures, posters, flyers, magnets, stickers, and CD) is also available from the website. These training modules are designed to help medical and dental providers implement early childhood caries preventive services for infants and toddlers into their current practice. Topics include the prevalence and impact of oral disease, risk assessment, culturally-appropriate anticipatory guidance, fluoride varnish application, implementation, workflow tips, and access to care. The modules also provide examples of culturally-appropriate handouts, exam/waiting room posters, and anticipatory guidance that can be shared with parents and caregivers. No cost continuing education is available.

This report describes a symposium held in Iowa City, Iowa September 6-8, 1978 focusing on nutrition in the medical and dental curriculum, including the importance of early nutrition and the development of dietary patterns in infants. Topics include the importance of dietary habits and subsequent choices of foods in terms of general health and prevention of dental caries, the role of fluoride and its presence in commercially available baby foods as well as the impact of water fluoridation, the role of snack foods and the frequency of eating on oral health, and the role of phosphates on oral health.
