This videotape is designed to help caregivers prioritize and become competent in routine oral hygiene for people with disabilities. There are vignettes with people with disabilities across the lifecycle, their families, and health care providers to illustrate different perspectives on oral health care. Three chapters explain and demonstrate (1) use of universal procedures to avoid cross-contamination, (2) assessment of oral health status, and (3) oral hygiene techniques. Topics include proper brushing, flossing, denture care, toothbrush storage, referrals to dental professionals, importance of routine examinations, responsibilities of care facilities, discerning oral pain in uncommunicative patients, and the importance of developing a program for daily oral hygiene.
