These materials provide information on oral health from infancy through adolescence. Contents include lesson plans and related products such as coloring pages, games, puzzles, puppets, stickers, videos, and worksheets. The lesson plans draw from multiple learning modes (visual, kinesthetic, auditory, musical), incorporate information on related topics such as nutrition and injury prevention, and are available in English and Spanish. The materials are part of a program that is designed to meet the American Academy of General Dentistry's Oral Health Literacy Guidelines and has been adopted by the National Children's Oral Health Foundation.

This curriculum is designed to teach students in kindergarten through eighth grades about the benefits of good oral health practices and the role of the dentist (and dental staff) in protecting their overall health and well-being. The lessons address the Sunshine State Standards for Health Education. A video series for students in kindergarten through fifth grades, including A Trip to the Dentist's Office, is also available.

    This slide presentation focuses on the role of the Head Start health coordinator who is responsible for the coordination of oral health services at the program level. The series of slides depict good oral health practices and emphasize three areas of concentration: oral health care, education, and prevention. Health coordinators are instructed to follow a mode of action in coordinating oral health services which includes the following steps: plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate. The presentation also includes guidelines and definitions to assist the Health Coordinator in better serving the needs of Head Start children. Screening procedures, dental forms, and methods of payment are examined and explained. Techniques for staff and parent training are included.

        This videotape shows Cathy, a shy four-year-old with asthma, as she participates in Head Start at a local center, and discusses services that Head Start offers, including oral health screening, oral health education, use of interdisciplinary staff to plan services needed by each child, and advisory committees. It also discusses oral health services in home-based Head Start when there is no center.

          This manual was developed to provide training to Head Start grantees so that a broader range of individuals can refer children for follow-up oral health treatment. The first part of the manual contains a rationale for performing oral health screenings, a how-to section, and suggested forms. The second part, which contains 68 slides illustrating normal and abnormal conditions, enables trainees to categorize children's oral health according to priority classifications. The third part contains additional slides that workshop participants can use to test their grasp of the information presented.

            This video for children addresses the importance of dental sealants. Live action and animation are used to demonstrate what sealants are, how they prevent decay, and how they are applied. The videotape was the meritorious winner in the 1988 American Dental Association Community Preventive Dentistry Award Competition. The content has since been made available on DVD and is included as a streaming video segment of the online manual, Seal America: The Prevention Invention.
