This online query system provides access to national and state data on the quality of, and access to, health care. The system can display estimates from national tables that are specific to particular age groups, as well as estimates based on race, ethnicity, income, or education. It can also access data on conditions such as asthma; display trends for national estimates on selected measures; display and download national and state data tables; access data for quality of health care, access to health care, and priority populations; and locate tables based on selected words, chapters, or type of table from the National Healthcare Quality Report and the National Healthcare Disparities Report.

This guide is an information and referral source for people who are involved in coordinating community-based oral services for developmentally disabled, elderly, and persons with low income. It is divided into two sections: (1) a directory of dentists and health facilities that treat these populations, transportation services available to these groups, and area offices of state human service agencies providing case management services; and (2) a listing of programs which provide services that increase access to dental care for these individuals.

These background materials were produced for the "Look Ma, Cavities!" planning workshop, which was sponsored by Public Health Service Region IX and held in San Francisco in April 1991. The goals of the planning workshop were to increase awareness and improve integration of oral health in maternal and child health programs related to primary care, preventive health services, and services for children with special health care needs. Included are the agenda, directory of participants, and outlines of oral health promotions in selected Region IX states (Hawaii, California, and Nevada). The proceedings of this workshop on oral health advocacy for special populations feature sections on background issues, Medicaid, a report on model programs, and a brief section on advocacy. The section on Medicaid includes a background paper by the Office of Technology Assessment on children's oral health services under the Medicaid program and a presentation by the American Dental Association's Council on Dental Care Programs. Also included are a memorandum summarizing the participants' evaluations, a section on state follow-up programs, and a directory of participants.

This report contains the results of a Nevada survey of the oral health status and treatment needs of 764 randomly selected public school students in grades 1 and 6. In addition to information about children's oral hygiene habits, the report includes sections that discuss the use of dental sealants, fluoridation, health professional access issues, and public funding. The survey was conducted for the Nevada State Health Division.

This report examines the relationship between oral health and policy factors relating to the development of public health procedures to improve oral health. The report includes an overview of the issue, presents background information on the epidemiology of oral diseases such as dental caries, considers the role of diet in oral diseases, and reviews the implications for children with special health needs. The report considers factors relating to public health policies such as access to care, funding, and dissemination of information, and examines methodologies for improving relationships between the medical and oral health professions. This report considers the effect of Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Testing (EPSDT) program revisions on the provision of oral health care to children and adolescents covered by the program. The 1989 Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA '89) included oral health professionals as primary health providers under the terms of the original program. The introduction reviews the background of the EPSDT program and the OBRA '89 changes. The report then considers the feasibility of using dentists and dental hygienists as primary care providers, reviews the advantages of doing so, and recommends policy changes to increase the role of oral health providers in primary care.
