This kit is designed for use by Head Start program staff and their community partners in providing oral health services for children enrolled in Region VIII Head Start programs. The DVD-ROM video segments briefly describe Head Start oral health services and oral-health-related program performance standards. Information on how programs can support parents by providing oral health education, establishing and maintaining routine oral hygiene practices, and helping them to access oral health care services is included. Components of the oral health visit are also discussed, including risk assessment, toothbrush care, fluoride-varnish application, and anticipatory guidance. The companion CD-ROM contains a risk-assessment form, selected materials on fluoride from California's First 5 Oral Health project, anticipatory guidance, behavior guidance, and selected journal article reprints.
