5.4 Advanced Behavior Management Techniques

Q: When are advanced management techniques advised?

A: Restraint or sedation may be needed to provide the best possible oral health care to some children in a manner that is safe for both the child and the dental office staff. If a child needs extensive treatment, oral health care under sedation may need to be provided at a hospital. Select a technique based on the specific health care needs of the child and then discuss the benefits, limits, and risks of that technique with the parents, and acquire informed consent.
