A: All dental office staff should know how and when to perform safe wheelchair transfers and use of a transfer board. Oral health professionals should use behavior guidance techniques consistent with their level of education and training and with the child’s needs. A dentist who isn't comfortable managing a child’s behavior, in partnership with the parents, should refer the child to another dentist with more knowledge, skill, and experience working with children with special health care needs.
