Module 2 Key Points
- Family-centered services can help families provide the best possible oral health care for their child at home and can also help oral health professionals provide the best possible care in the dental office.
- Family-centered care is an approach to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of health care that is governed by mutually beneficial partnerships between families and health professionals. Family-centered care is responsive to the priorities and choices of families; recognizes the vital role that parents play in ensuring the health and well-being of their children; and acknowledges that emotional, social, and developmental support are integral components of health care.
- In-office oral health care can be a pleasant and rewarding experience for children if enough time is taken to establish trust and to orient the child and family to the dental office environment, equipment, and procedures.
