How should Head Start programs comply with state pharmacy regulations that require an individualized prescription for each child for fluoride supplements?

Some state pharmacy regulations require a fluoride-supplement prescription for each child. In these states, the child's dentist, physician, or other licensed health professional with state authority must write a prescription for the type of fluoride supplement and the dosage for the child. If parents give their consent, the Head Start program can let a nurse or another staff member give the child fluoride supplements.
